Medayil is a term used by many families for their 2 storey house. Another story is that when Kunjachonda (5th son of Judge Kochitty Kuruvilla) woke up one day from his sleep, found a dead Cobra under his bed. It never harmed him though he may have been lying over a poisonous snake. Meda - the ancestral home There were 3 buildings in Moonamadam. It was likely that only the Moonamadam home had a kitchen. The Chavadi home comprised of only bedrooms and Medayil (Meda) was used as a guest house. The ancestral home ‘Meda’ got passed from Judge Kuruvila (1785 to 1851) down to the youngest son to Kunjachonda Kuruvila to Kunju to Kuruvila George (Kochupapy) to George Oommen and finally to Reghu George Oommen who was the last owner of Meda.

Kuruvila Kunjachonda, the fifth son of the judge was the first born to him through his second marriage. He had his schooling at CNI school owned by CMS Church and acquired proficiency in English. He was by nature a quiet person and deeply religious. The association of the missionaries influenced him a lot and he became a pious man. Later when he returned, he used to go around the village with his servants and enquire about everyone, rich and poor, about their well being and donated money and food to whomsoever was in need. He also financially helped those who needed medical assistance. Because of his benevolent character, everyone respected and loved him. Among all the children of the judge, he was the most pious and spiritual person. He married Accamma from Kayamkulam Kanayil family. He had only one son.

I.1.1.3) Dr. George Kuruvila BA, MBBS (Kochubaby) (5g) Born in 1903, married Ammini (Annamma) - B.A. (History & English Lit.), daughter of Engineer Thomas of Kaniyanthara Vadakevalayil. He trained under some of the great physicians of the time like Dr. Theodore Howard Somervell OBE, FRCS and established two hospitals in Thiruvalla, one at Kavumbhagom, GK Hospital and one near SCS Junction, Thiruvalla, which was a clinic, GK Dispensary. He was the first Municipal Chairman of Thiruvalla and continued for 17 years.
He was a thorough gentleman and a personality whom the entire region respected. He was kind and generous. Even today older people remember how they used to wait to see him in the rural areas like Mepral, Pulikkezhu for his monthly visits for onsite treatment and distribution of free medicines. He was one of the gems of Poothicote family. He has 4 sons and 1 daughter.

His wife, Susheela also became the Chairperson of the Thiruvalla Municipality like her father-in-law. Benoy was active with the Lions Club, and was the Lions District Governor for Kerala district (324E) in 1982-1983.They have 2 sons.

He was a very jovial person with humour and quite outspoken - completely at variance with his brother, Dr. Kochubaby. He has 6 daughters:

I.1.1.5.3.) George Oommen (Oommachen) (5g) October 28, 1907 - October 15, 1959. Married Achy (Kunjunju) of Varikkat, Kottayam. He was an engineer with government PWD and also the Director of Dams, Govt of India. He was responsible for building several big landmarks in Kerala like the Marthanda Varma Bridge in Alwaye, Kundala Dam, Mattupetty Dam and many Marthoma churches. He helped many poor families in Mepral get jobs especially during the construction of the dams. He was also a good football player. He has 3 sons and 1 daughter.

I.1.1.8) Susan Verghese (Thankamma / Thangu)(5g) married to Dr. James Verghese PhD (Organic Chemistry), Tholath House, Thrissur who served as the Head of the Department of Chemistry at CMC, Vellore. Post retirement, they moved to Kochi and settled down there. Thangu was largely a homemaker who came with up absolutely ravishing mouth watering dishes that could not be challenged in those days. After retirement, Dr. James Verghese took up the post of Director - Scientific and Technical affairs in Synthite Industries, Kolenchery where he served until his death in January 2005. They had three sons:

I.1.1.8.2) George James (6g) (Georgutty) was married to Annie George, Mangalathu house, Mallappally. Georgutty worked as an Area Sales Manager for Rallis India and later as the Hospital Administrator for G.K. Hospital, Tiruvalla. Annie is a teacher at Chinnmaya Vidayalaya, Cochin. They have two daughters.

I.1.1.8.2.2) Anna George (7g) married to Adv. Vinu Chand, Theravakattil House, Pattimattom. Vinu is an Independant Criminal lawyer practising in the High Court of Kerala. Anna is a Scientist working at Synthite, Kolenchery. They have two children, a daughter and a son.
